چکیده

The planning and support of military naval expeditionary operations relies on precise environmental data, which must be available on time, at the right place and in the requested format. These data sets, usually obtained from a wide number of sensors (satellites, sonars) and models (meteorological and oceanographic), have a common feature: the geospatial component. This paper presents a client-server Geographic Information System, developed at the NATO Undersea Research Centre, based on an enterprise Java application and a geospatial database, to store, convert, fuse and deliver the above-mentioned data sets. The system is also able to run applications deployed on the server to produce new products (for tactical decision support) from the data stored in the database. Users may use many types of client applications to connect to the server, ranging from thin clients, like a web browser, to thick clients, like ESRI ArcMap/ArcView (provided with ad-hoc extensions).

Expeditionary Decision Support System (EDSS) and its application to Information Superiority/Information Operations

The ability to execute true distributed and collaborative planning for amphibious operations, including ship-to-objective maneuver, selected intelligence and meteorological functions, and plan rehearsal is critical in the fast moving littoral/expeditionary warfare area. As part of an ongoing series of newly developed Tactical Decision Aids (TDA) for the Global Command and Control System – Marit...

Unmanned Vehicles Set to Disruptive US Advantages in the Littoral

Expeditionary Warfare in the Littorals Expeditionary marine warfare involves fighting away from an established land base. It requires larger naval vessels to navigate the littorals and launch and support a landing force. In many ways, it is the maritime equivalent of urban combat, requiring operations in a noisy, cluttered environment filled with a mixture of commercial, recreational, and comba...

Virtual Technologies and Environments for Expeditionary Warfare Training (panel)

Advances in technology are enhancing our ability to create realistic Virtual Environments (VEs) in which Sailors and Marines can train skills that are too costly, dangerous or otherwise impossible to practice. These capabilities will become even more important in the future as budgets and time for training decrease. The proposed panel will discuss an ONR Future Naval Capabilities R&D initiative...

An application of the multiple knapsack problem: The self-sufficient marine

Self-Sufficiency (SS) is the ability to maintain capability without external support or aid. Operations in austere environments with limited functional infrastructure and logistical support, which are common in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief as well as military operations, must be self-sufficient. In this paper, we explore the challenges of SS in the United States Marine Corps (USM...
